Gather Round is about all things AFL, but for those moments when you’re not cheering on your team during South Australia’s festival of footy there will be no shortage of entertainment.
Live at The Drive, on April 12, will showcase the very best of our state just a drop punt from Adelaide Oval.
From SA’s world-class food and drink to its vibrant music scene, Live at The Drive will highlight it all and provide an exciting – and free – new destination for fans and visitors to relax, dine and enjoy live entertainment between the Oval’s two epic Saturday AFL matches.
As part of the event, Adelaide’s status as a UNESCO City of Music will be on full display, with local acoustic musicians and DJs performing live from The Drive’s stage.
Footy fans will also be able to enjoy a true taste of South Australia with curated food and drink offerings, featuring produce from across SA’s regions.
To add to the atmosphere – and for those who missed out on tickets to the twilight game at Norwood Oval - all the action from the Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions game will be broadcast live on the big screen.
"We’re thrilled to launch Live at The Drive as a new addition to this year’s Gather Round program," Tennis SA and The Drive CEO Debbie Sterrey said.
"Gather Round is not only an incredible celebration of footy but provides a terrific opportunity to showcase our great state, with last year’s event bringing more than 45,000 visitors to South Australia.
"Our location at the heart of Adelaide’s vibrant sporting and entertainment precinct, just steps from the Oval, provides us a fantastic opportunity to join in all the festivities and serve up some of the warm South Australian hospitality for which we’re known."
Over at The Parade, Aussie rockers Birds of Tokyo (pictured) will be providing the soundtrack for the Norwood Food & Wine Festival on 13 April.
Footy and festival supporters can take their pick from more than 50 traders including arkhé, Gullyview Estate X The Watervale Hotel, Fair Seafood, Bickford’s and many more.
The day’s three AFL games – including a 2:50pm clash between St Kilda and the GWS Giants at Norwood Oval – will be broadcast across dedicated watch zones and in a sensory area at Norwood Hoyts.
South Australian winery Penfolds is showcasing its internationally renowned range through a stylish new space set to welcome walk-in guests for canapés and tastings, while leading local chefs including Callum Hann will star in Tasting Australia Kitchen cooking demonstrations.
Birds of Tokyo, who have twice headlined the AFL Grand Final, will take the stage about 6pm for a performance of greatest hits including Good Lord, Plans, Lanterns, Two of Us, Brace and Unbreakable.
"We saw a massive boost to businesses through the festival last year, with a 48 per cent increase in city-wide spend and a 68 per cent increase in spend within Norwood, across the dining and hospitality sector, compared to AFL Gather Round 2023," Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Mayor Robert Bria said.
"Now we’re preparing to host another big party on The Parade, welcoming footy fans from across Australia and everyone who loves South Australian food and beverages."
